I have been in the auto restoration industry since 2000. Full restorations include 1924 Miller 122 Indy Car, 1938 BMW 328, 1926 Miller (Locomobile) and others. My specialty is fabrication and sheet metal work. I am a Cincinnati native and chose car manuals over comic books at an early age. I have a passion for Panel-beating and always aim for perfection.
I became interested in mechanical things and racing at an early age building several coaster carts while in elementary school to race my buddies on a hill near the farm I grew up on. As a teenager, I gathered up a few old cars to run on a dirt track I fashioned in one of our fields putting in a lot of laps and occasionally racing my brother. Once I got my driver’s license, I became a regular fan at Columbus Motor Speedway and Powell Speedway in the Columbus, Ohio area. After high school I worked for two years in the oldest Chevrolet dealership in the state of Ohio, built a ’49 Ford stock car and worked on the pit crew for a professional driver.
While my ambition was to become a race driver and possibly some day drive at Indy, reality set in and I left the Chevrolet dealership to attend Ohio State University focusing on farm tractors and equipment. I graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture and a commission in the U.S. Army. I served two years of active duty in the Ordinance Corp then went to work in the Tractor Division of Ford Motor Company. Ford Tractor was eventually merged with New Holland Farm Equipment and I retired after 30+ years
In the mean time I restored a 1934 John Deere Model GP, 1919 Willys Overland Model 90 touring car and had a couple “drivers”, a 1952 Crosley Hot Shot and a 1931 Willys Knight Model 66D two door Victoria. Eventually my love of racing resurfaced and I purchased a retired Indy car with a long racing history. I restored the car and have received several national awards from The Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) and numerous awards at Concours de Elegance shows. In addition, I have participated in 2-4 on-track vintage events for about 19 years and will make my 16th start in the vintage event at Indy sponsored by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.
I came to Zakira’s Garage in2002 to pursue my interest in restoration and vintage racing. My responsibilities include finding sources for any parts, supplies or services needed for restoration projects or general maintenance or repair of collector cars entrusted to Zakira’s.
